At Topirum Primary school we use a Maths Workshop Model. This model prioritises giving students the skills, dispositions and capacities to use mathematical knowledge and skills purposefully. The use of hands-on manipulatives connected to real life contexts embeds student mathematical skills. 

Two core elements of the workshop are: 

• Fluency Tasks - Students who have developed their fluency can recall definitions and number facts readily, for example times tables.
• Number Talks - A Number Talk is a short whole class mathematical discussion that prompts students to inquire curiously and draw upon a range of sense-making skills and strategies to solve a problem.
